Dimethyldimethoxysilane or Dimethoxydimethylsilane, or abbreviated DMDMS, is a monomeric alkoxy silane with two methyl groups. It can hydrolyze rapidly and form high-reactive silanols. It is well-known as the equivalent of Dow Corning Z-6194 or ShinEtsu KBM-22.
Dimethyldimethoxysilane can be used as a resin modifier or a resin additive for various silicone resins. Dimethyldimethoxysilane can be used as a structure control agent and a chain extender for silicone rubbers, to replace hydroxyl silicone oil and improve the mechanical properties and extend the shelf life of the rubbers. Dimethyldimethoxysilane can be used treat silica and act as a surface modifier for the treatment of inorganic fillers, pigments and glass. Dimethyldimethoxysilane can be used in the silane backbone of polyurethane crosslinked silica aerogels.
