Reacts with halogenated carboxylic acids to form amphoteric compounds. It can react with carboxylic acid chloride to generate amide. Mannish reaction with nucleophiles or phenols can be carried out to generate multifunctional compounds. It reacts with hydrochloric acid to generate dodecylamine hydrochloride.
