Ethylmagnesium bromide, molecular formula: C2H5MgBr, is prepared by the reaction of metallic magnesium and bromoethane in anhydrous ether. The relative density of the commercially available product (ether solution) is about 1.01. Used for Grignard reaction. Similarly, ethyl magnesium chloride is a solution of ether or tetrahydrofuran with a relative density of 0.85.
